Nokia/Burton: Nokia Push

Nokia Push via Hyper, London have collaborated with the world’s biggest snowboarding company Burton, to take their smartphone experience to the extreme.

Nokia Push started back in September 2009, to help re-invent the way we view skating, aerial photography, city guides and more, and it seems like Nokia are trying to turn real life into a gaming experience.

The manufacturer’s debut project, Push N900, launched earlier this year as an exciting idea which involved re-inventing the popular N900 handset to make it capable of doing something completely else. The project proved popular, and brought together hackers from around the world to turn the device into everything from an Etch-a-Sketch to a gadget which can track your skating achievements.

Nokia have now formed a partnership with Snowboard giants Burton, to create a new type of connected snowboarding. The project will entail using ‘smart’ boards and tech equipped clothing to communicate complex real time data to a phone handset.

Work has already started between the two companies, and the first taster will be shown at next year’s Burton Euro Open in January, followed by a beta launch at the US Open in March.

Nokia have also also launched a competition named Push N8, urging users to submit an idea for a short film, event, show or Push moment, which they must create using the Nokia N8 prototype Push hacks. There will be two different categories, Push KAPing and Push Skating, with four winners chosen from each. KAPing refers to Kite Aerial Photography, which means means shooting a film over the air whilst controlling the kite in ground. Push Skating is a bit more self explanation, and involves using your N8 to track your moves, for the handset to analyze and you points and ratings.
