94 years old man gives back the bottle of vodka he stole during the WWII
The story begins with the letter, found by LVOV agency, written by the son of the main character, in which he informs that his father, 94 year old Stefan Plazek is in the possesion of the legendary vodka J.A. Baczewski bottle that he stole during the war, and he now wants to give it back to the legal heirs of the brand owners. All that seemed so intriguing, that the agency decided to make the handover of the bottle happen and document it. The secret was revealed in front of the camera, when the older man and the Baczewski brand representative met for the very first time. Stefan Plazek, 94 years old retired attorney from Cracow, Poland survived WWII thanks to the bottles of vodka stolen from spirit distillery where he worked as a warehouseman. Vodka was the most „marketable” good during the war turmoil. One could buy almost anything needed to survive paying with a bottle of vodka. Mr Plazak doesn’t feel any remorse, because he stole vodka first from nazi, and than from soviet occupants. After all those years there is only one stolen bottle left. It has additional sentimental value, because the brand Baczewski has not been present in Poland for 72 years. When the brand started to operate in Poland again after the years of emigration, Stefan Plazek decided to give back the last bottle into the hands of the Baczewski’s legal heirs. Touched by that unusual gesture, the owners decided to donate the bottle to the Museum of Polish Vodka in Warsaw. The movie was directed by the distinguished polish documentalist Marcin Koszałka.
