This was a year of records in terms of both death and loss related to the flows of migrants in Mediterranean nations, which has given rise to political debate and maneuvering that has, unfortunately, not been able to stem the tide of one of the greatest tragedies of modern times. It is an issue that has also been the focus of a project entrusted to some of the most creative people at the world's leading advertising agencies for the latest edition of the Cannes Advertising Festival, where we witnessed the first spark that led to the production of a video that Ogilvy & Mather Italy has donated to Emergency for Christmas. Alessia Bonito Oliva and Margherita Maestro, the two young authors of the video, directed by Paolo Iabichino and Giuseppe Mastromatteo, tell a tale of great heart. As new political leaders are restoring old border walls and the immigration debate everywhere is shifting to the need to put limits on refugees attempting to escape war and famine, Emergency is working to convey quite a different message about the importance of solidarity and of eliminating all obstacles.
