Guest judge: John Mescall, global ECD, McCann Worldgroup, NY

 GUEST JUDGE /BEST AD OF THE WEEK   WORLDWIDE    November 16, 2015 10:12 (Edited: February 17, 2023 05:19)
BEST TV
Favourite: Currys PC World, Jigsaw. It's funny, smart, properly written. And it's basically Jeff Goldblum owning the screen for two minutes. If they passed a law that Jeff Goldblum had to feature in every ad on TV for a day, that would be the best day in advertising.

Runner up: Temptations, Say Sorry for the Holidays. It must be nice being at adam&eve, having Elton John as your inhouse music guy. I really like this, even though I don't particularly like cats. So I imagine people who love cats will be sharing this like crazy and hopefully buying loads of Temptations for their little fur babies.

BEST PRINT
The best idea here is Love your Curls, because trust me I know how hard it is to find or make emojis when you have curly hair. But this idea is designed to be used and played with... shared and experienced, and isn't really a print idea at all.
Maybe the fact that my favourite idea in print is a piece of support advertising for a mobile app says a lot about the role of print advertising these days.
Nothing good enough to award here (in print).

BEST OUTDOOR
Favourite: Mentos Mentors. This strategy has been around the block a few times, but the execution is winningly charming. Is it outdoor though? It's really a nice piece of film that may or may not be genuinely candid. But who cares, I like it.

Runner up: Everything else was a few steps below my favourite, so no runner up.

BEST INTERACTIVE
Favourite: Sony, Explore Studio A Revisited. As a fan of Dylan, this was genuinely interesting to play with for a couple of minutes. And made me think and appreciate the artistry behind that album, so well done. But I really wish the user experience was a little deeper, and allowed me to mix the different stems and hear them concurrently, like I was actually in the studio and able to mix my own versions.

Runner up: Noli Me Tangere. Really lovely. Genuinely interactive too. Passes the 'would people really do that' test and shows some nice craft.
