 GUEST JUDGE /BEST AD OF THE WEEK   WORLDWIDE    April 18, 2017 08:52 (Edited: February 17, 2023 04:19)
As I pen this, it's nearly midnight on Tuesday 18th April in New Zealand (we're from the future, don't you know) and so therefore the absolute deadline of deadlines for the award show of award shows for us is only 48 hours away.

Consequently, I'm eyeing this week's pick very much with Cannes in mind. Just as I suspect some of this work was written, produced and bought (in that order) with Cannes in mind. Yes, all condom, dog adoption, adult shop ad makers. I'm talking to you.

BEST TV
Let's start with Best TV. Winner: A real contender for metal in Film A16 will be Spectrum. Great insight and wonderfully produced by the incomparable David Shane. Speaking of which, this should clean up in Film Craft. My picks would be A01 Direction and A02 Script. What the heck, stick it in A03 Casting too, why don't you; the Grim Reaper is a crack up. David, if you're reading this, love to work with you again. There's no category for sycophancy unfortunately - I checked.

Runner up: Under Armour. I've never seen an agency parody its own work before (Note to Terry Savage: new category for 2018?) Brave move. This could have backfired, but it doesn't. It's very moving and humbling. Looking good for C01 Viral Film and F02 Use of Online Film.

BEST PRINT
Okay, slim pickings here. Nothing to cause the Print Jury bar scanners to beep a unanimous chorus of approvals here.

BEST OUTDOOR
Only one winner and no runner up this week in Best Outdoor. Ladies and gentlemen of the Cannes Outdoor Jury, please give it up for Road Safety Authority France (Paris and its suburbs.) If ever two categories were destined for an idea like this it would have to be E03 Use of Digital Outdoor and C03 Interactive & Dynamic Billboards/Posters. Feels like metal to me. And given how incredibly clunky that client name is, bonus points for legitimacy too.

BEST INTERACTIVE
Moving on to Interactive and alas we're a bit thin on the ground here with no runner up. Winner: (finalist more likely) Free A Girl Movement. Could try a left field Health & Wellness Lions B03 Fundraising & Advocacy entry maybe.

Good luck to this week's worthy winners. And remember, keep those case studies nice and short folks.
