In India, 2 in 3 women are raped by their husbands and it's totally legal. The Indian law for rape has an exception where a rape inside a marriage is not considered as a crime. To fight this law and create awareness around criminalising marital rape, RIT Foundation found Sameer, an activist and sent him to a police station pretending he raped his wife. But in a few minutes, he was released as an innocent, proving the absurdness of this law.
Agency: Ogilvy, Singapore Sameer’s whole journey was filmed and turned into a documentary. The story spread online immediately, sparking a huge debate. But, the opposition didn’t stay quiet. Thousands reported the video and managed to take it down from social platforms. But despite the censorship, the conversation progressed significantly and forced the patriarchal society of India to deal with the issue. Thanks to RIT Foundation, the case to change marital rape laws will be heard at the Delhi High Court.
