“Life is about finding your rhythm, even in the wake of change.” That’s the message of 'Business as Usual', a short film which celebrates the artistry and community-based spirit of Black-owned businesses in the United States. In partnership with Google, the two minute film is written and directed by division7’s Joshua Kissi, a Ghanian-American director and photographer. Told through stunning graphic black-and-white visuals, we follow the protagonist through his morning ritual – splashing water on his face, making breakfast, reading the newspaper – before he emerges from his house, skateboard in hand. His destination: Neighbors Skate Shop. Located in Leimert Park, the heart and soul of African-American art and music in L.A., the skate shop is helping to keep this vibrant and historic cultural centre alive.
