In a new campaign video, Greenpeace Hungary addresses decision-makers to hold companies responsible for solving the plastic problem. From beaches in Southeast Asia to the Antarctic, plastic pollution is devastating our oceans, our communities and impacting our health. The packaging industry simply can’t avoid taking responsibility anymore. The Plastic Warnings campaign urges companies to innovate and apply sustainable alternatives to disposable plastic packaging. The campaign plays with the idea: what if every packaging would have Plastic Warnings similar to labels on tobacco products? Warning signs like: “Companies have only recycled 9% of all plastic waste ever produced.” or “Plastic can take up to 400 years to decompose.” We are being bombarded with corporate buzzwords such as “100% recyclable packaging” or “made with biodegradable plastic”. But companies are simply shifting actions to consumers while the core of the model is the same: use and throw away, in huge quantities. Our planet can’t take it anymore. The spreading of no package shops or the zero-waste lifestyle shows that consumers are becoming more conscious around the world. Now, it’s time for plastic producers to react at the same pace and weight. On their website Greenpeace Hungary addresses CEOs, in hope to inspire them with a list of solutions to avoid using unnecessary plastic for packaging: from refilling stations or container deposit fees to examples of rethinking the product itself. As part of the campaign anyone can add the #plasticwarnings Instagram stickers to their photo of any product to expose the facts behind disposable plastic packaging
