Waka Kotahi – NZ Transport Agency: Future News

When Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency launched Road To Zero, an ambitious strategy and vision to reach zero road deaths roads by 2050... no one believed them. After years of news about heavy road death numbers, Kiwis couldn't imagine zero or how we'd get there. So instead of asking New Zealand to imagine the future we made it current affairs. Future News was a first-of-its-kind media partnership between Waka Kotahi and NZ's most popular nightly news show, Seven Sharp. Using prosthetics we aged the iconic hosts Hilary Barry and Jeremy Wells 30 years and had them 'report from the year 2050' - a time when no one is killed on our roads. They used this conceit to explain the details of Road To Zero and the Safe System approach (the international gold standard in road safety) that underpins it in a detailed, convincing, and entertaining way.
