Kids are more likely to pin up a poster of an exciting shiny red sports car or fancy luxury sedan than one of a midsize sedan. Well, you can’t really blame them. Midsize sedans aren’t known as attractive, fast, beautiful cars. They’re typically vanilla, bland and forgettable. Kia through David&Goliath, Los Angeles decided it was time to elevate the midsize category and show its true potential. Introducing the all-new 2011 Kia Optima, a midsize sedan that’s designed to be nothing like one. It’s the kind of car that kids and teenagers, even adults, would want to pin up on their bedroom and garage walls. It’s the kind of car that you dream about.

In a 60-second cinema and television commercial, the Optima becomes the car that a child always dreamt of driving. We follow a young boy as he sleeps in his classic racecar bed – the type of bed we either had or desperately wanted to have as a child. His closet doors mysteriously open to a road and beautiful world, suddenly awakening the boy. His racecar bed magically comes to life and begins to take him on a journey, out of his bedroom and down the road.

The boy and his car bed go on a driving adventure through the country, the city, across bridges, along the beach and through the mountains. Along the way he encounters different characters and animals, from a rocket to a train and medieval knights on horseback, all from the fantastical world of his storybooks and toys. The boy and his car bed go on one incredible driving adventure through the night until he eventually races into a tunnel. When he emerges from the tunnel he is no longer on his racecar bed – he has transformed into an adult, behind the wheel of his dream car, the 2011 Kia Optima. We watch him continue his incredible drive, now in the beautiful midsize sedan as he drives through a city’s downtown streets with speed and style.

As he continues to drive out of the city and off in the direction of the open road we hear the voiceover say, “No one ever dreamt of driving a midsize sedan…until now. The all-new Kia Optima.”
