The Art Institute of Chicago: Mirror Cling

Who says riding the El can't be glamorous? Passengers on the CTA Red Line will get the royal treatment as the Art Institute of Chicago via Energy BBDO, Chicago transforms select seats into replicas of Renaissance-era thrones to promote its latest exhibition, "Kings, Queens and Courtiers: Art in Early Renaissance France". Passengers are encouraged to snap photos as they preside over their commuting kingdom, and upload them to the Art Institute of Chicago's Facebook page for a chance to win a more upscale royal treatment at the museum, including a private tour of the Art Institute, a hardcover Kings, Queens and Courtiers catalogue and an overnight stay for two at the Palmer House Hilton.

As part of the marketing campaign, created by Energy BBDO, mirror clings in retail venues like Bloomingdale’s will transform Chicagoans' reflections into that of crowned royalty. And on Twitter, the antiquated (yet sometimes scandalous) 15th century collides with modern times as @CourtierRobert shares humorous insights from the point of view of a Renaissance courtier with a penchant for pop culture.

The Art Institute of Chicago's "Kings, Queens and Courtiers: Art in Early Renaissance France" exhibition showcases a turbulent, fascinating period in French art, and will run through May 30, 2011.
