Imperial Leather: Simon returns

Embed Video
After more than three decades absence from the screen, the immortal phrase "Simon, Tahiti" is being brought to life with the reinvention of a classic Cussons' Imperial Leather commercial.

The work of DDB Group Melbourne, the incarnation of the ad marks the launch of Cussons Imperial Leather Foamburst which has been redesigned for use in the shower instead of the bath; a move that presented some interesting technical challenges.

DDB Group Melbourne wanted to stay true to the look and feel of the original add and were therefore faced with a host of considerations when reinventing it. Having to pay a great deal of attention to the choreography of the actors to maintain a PG rating, the construction of a full-sized set on a sound stage to capture the majority of the action in-camera - as they did back in 1978, the creative approach to a reality-based commercial in an age of computer generated imagery, and the addition of a live swan - a moody and unpredictable species, made the old classic a challenging shoot.

The modern adaptation of the Imperial Leather Foamburst commercial will be reintroduced to the Australian public via online media on Friday 1st July in conjunction with a competition to win a trip to Tahiti, a week before officially airing on 10 July 2011.
