 GUEST JUDGE /BEST AD OF THE WEEK   WORLDWIDE    October 31, 2016 07:18 (Edited: February 17, 2023 04:19)
BEST TV
Winner: Under Armour, Make That Old With Stephen Curry. Well-written, beautifully shot, great editing, love the soundtrack. Stephen Curry's back and he's mad! Would have been nicer to see this stray a bit more from the expected formula though.

Runner-Up: Dos Equis, The Most Interesting Man In The World. Should they ever have remade Total Recall, The Karate Kid or Ben Hur? Definitely not. Some things should be left alone. At least that was my first thought on viewing this. But then I remembered this is an ad, not a cherished movie, so why the hell not?

BEST PRINT
Winner: Super Nature, Made of Incredible Stuff. This is the one I'm sure I'll remember for weeks if not months from now - even if it is not predicated on a 'clever' idea or execution. I read about Turia Pitt at the time she was injured and to see today she is competing and fronting an ad campaign really is incredible stuff.

Runner-Up: Easy Taxi, Lucha Libre. It was a toss up here between this and Land Rover - which I liked because of the insight, but was let-down by the idea. The connection between the midgets and the pay-off is a bit weak, but maybe it got lost in translation.

BEST OUTDOOR
Winner: The Captain's Ride, The Riderless Bike. A nice way to illustrate the focus of this charity's efforts, with a bit of 360 VR interaction thrown in to boot to let sick kids join the ride. I hope the bike works as well in reality as the case film.

Runner-Up: Hillshire Snacking, The World's Fanciest Vending Machine. I know what you're thinking - another f*cking vending machine. It made me smile, a little.

BEST INTERACTIVE
Winner: Popaganda Music Festival, The Single Release. Simple, smart use of social. Why not let the fans - who love the music and will do it anyway - be the ones to spread word of the festival lineup. Better to spend those saved media dollars on extra portaloos and dream catchers. More case films should embrace the indie folk music V/O.

Runner-Up: Crispin Porter + Bogusky Los Angeles, Washington vs. Trump. Anything that helps to demonstrate this clear and present danger gets my vote.
