 GUEST JUDGE /BEST AD OF THE WEEK   WORLDWIDE    April 24, 2023 14:38 (Edited: April 25, 2023 00:38)
BEST TV
Winner: Intermarche 'Lunch Box'. I like the insight - eating well is becoming more unreachable for most people. Coming from a place where food security is a recurring problem, this ad hit too close to home. The film was very charming and entertaining. I love the simple storytelling where everything felt natural and authentic. The soundtrack is killer too. I am now following that artist on Spotify.

Runner up: Extinction Rebellion 'Choose your future'. Not an easy film to watch. And the reveal was very heartbreaking for me. A fine example of how a low-budget film can have maximum impact.

BEST PRINT
Winner: Le Chocolat des Francais 'The Island'. Loving this campaign. I like the use of contrast to demonstrate the idea. Coming from their long history of well executed and beautifully illustrated campaigns, this series doesn't disappoint. And I like how the brand is evolving. I wasn't expecting skeletons, which is a nice surprise.

Runner up: Fridays For Future/Earth Day 'Earth Is No Toy'. Powerful and scary thought of what the world would be like if left in the hands of children. Looking at the bright side, I still would like to think that children are more forgiving and compassionate.

BEST OUTDOOR
Winner: P&O Ferries 'There is Another Way'. A good old, well-written copy ad will always interest me. This series put a smile in my mind and took me back in time when life was simpler. Loved how it was tastefully art-directed with great use of white space and enticing photography. Makes me want to book now.

Runner up: LUX 'Change the Angle'. A QR code placed on women where sports cameras usually focus on? I'll scan that. Which will lead you to a film where they will educate media cameras to change their POV. I just hope this will really have an impact.

BEST INTERACTIVE
Winner: Maurice Blackburn Lawyers 'Exhibit A-i'. A reminder of how AI can have a positive impact on humanity. When these images only exist in the memory of the victims, technology can now help us better understand what they’ve been through. The images looked real - as if they were photographed on the day it happened. Chilling.

Runner up: Amazone-se 'Non-mineable Land'. I like the play of using Minecraft to educate children on the negative impact of mining. Must be fun and frustrating at the same time when you can't mine in the game. I just wish they could've explained how it works a bit more.

BEST RADIO
Winner: Kitkat 'AI Made This Ad'. Only time will tell if and when AI will do a better job at writing scripts. Until then, we can poke fun at it. I can imagine this idea beating to the punch a whole bunch of similar executions from around the world. And I like how in real life, the creative team did a bit less of work by employing tech.

Runner-up: Protecto 'Death Metal'. Not sure if everyone can bear to hear metal music but I sure did. Being a metalhead, this one got my attention. Was rocking to the tune even without understanding the lyrics. Very entertaining.
