VIEW THE SPOT Guest Judge: Troy Hitch SVP/ECD, EnergyBBDO/Xi Chicago This week's guest judge is Troy Hitch, senior vice president and executive creative director at EnergyBBDO/Xi Chicago. Winner: Viva Rio Flooded Words. Brilliant, simple, arresting and unexpected. The format, the pacing of the typing establish a sense of passiveness and complacency-exactly what the spot aims to combat. Very well executed. READ MORE Guest Judge: Russell Ramsey, ECD, JWT, London This week's guest judge is Russell Ramsey, executive creative director of JWT, London.Winner: VW Tall Girl. Beautifully directed story about a tall girl who finds life a little hard because of her height. Difficult meetings and awkward shared umbrellas. Until she meets her perfect partner. A tall guy with a VW UP that can accommodate both of them. They drive off into the sunset. Some good stuff this week, our favourite of the TV was Cif. A nice lateral idea for a category that you rarely see strong work for. READ MORE Guest Judge: Brian Howlett, CCO, Agency59, Toronto This week's guest judge is Brian Howlett, chief creative officer at Agency59 in Toronto, Canada. A few things become apparent when you take a 7-day snapshot of the world's best work. The pro bono clients are, unfortunately, too well represented. The definitions of 'outdoor' and 'interactive' are as fuzzy as ever. (Ambient? Experiential? PR?) And the engineers have taken over the creative department. After a long hard winter, spring finally seems to have arrived in the UK. As I struggle to come to terms with blue skies outside my window and not wearing a multitude of layers just to step outside the door, it seems apt that the best TV spot of the week goes to the guys at Mother for their latest IKEA spot. READ MORE Guest Judges: Greig Watt + Jared Osmond, NetworkBBDO, Jo'burg This week's guest judges are Greig Watt (right) and Jared Osmond (far right), a senior creative team at NetworkBBDO, Johannesburg. 1) Old Spice Bar Soap: Shower 2) Wheat Thins: Puppet This was by far the strongest category. Old Spice, once again, has found a way to mention their product throughout the entire commercial while still maintaining their signature brand of irreverence by making fun of the formulaic ads that clutter this category. Next, we loved the rather traumatising story of a puppet who can't eat Wheat Thins but still tries. The execution breaks through and is just a hell of a lot of fun to watch. One of the coolest things I've ever seen. Puppets vs people in a full on dance off. It not only captures the unconventional personality of the brand, but it positions Diesel's new denim collection in a joyful and inspired way. The spot is a clever way of bringing facts to light. The everyday scenario adds a chilling element. Samsonite - 'Enjoy Every Second'. Yes. Traveling is totally about immersing yourself in an alien culture and the experience makes it more pleasurable without luggage mishaps to ruin it. And the guy eating an insect is a nice touch. Magistral Dishwasher - 'Big Drops'. Great piece of film that refreshes the dish-washing category. Powerful drop. Wonderful message.  This week's guest judge is Mark Tutssel, the worldwide creative director at Leo Burnett, who, when not on an plane, splits his time between Chicago and London.The best of this section was "Tumble", a blockbuster for Sch...you know who? Schweppes has always been about the sensory experience. This new blockbuster is the latest attempt designed to capture and convey the feeling of this experience. This is SCHWEPPERVESCENCE. A tumble down a snow capped mountain into a waterfall. This visual analogy is skillfully handled by director Steve Rogers, with great production values.  This week's guest judges are Aaron McGurk and Chris Lapham, a senior creative team at Wieden Kennedy, London.First place goes to 'Slip Francois' by BETC Paris, because it's bizarre, intriguing and made us laugh. Which is all you can hope for when selling pants. There's no denying that Volkswagen is one of the most creative advertisers in the world and this ad is yet another shining example. Not only is it cute (at least for us dog lovers) but entertaining and neatly tied to the product in an understated way. READ MORE Guest Judges: Gian Carlo Lanfranco + Rolando Cordova, Fred&Farid This week's guest judges are Gian Carlo Lanfranco and Rolando Cordova, senior creatives at French hot shop Fred&Farid. We chose Nike: Vapour Trail. This great film done by W K trapped us from the first second, an amazing interpretation of this product's benefit. The visual is so rich and at the same time simple and flawless that keeps you hooked to the screen. You don't really know how it's going to play at the end. Or even if you do, you just want to see it again. There's gotta be a twist to this thing." So, if the rumour is true surely there's only one thing to do?VIEW THE SPOT Wieden + Kennedy Portland tops 2012 Bestads Rankings The prolific Wieden & Kennedy, Portland has been ranked the world's number one advertising agency in the 9th Annual Bestads Rankings, released today.The world's hottest shop was ahead of second placed BBH London, followed by DDB Group New Zealand and DDB New York in equal third spot, and Wieden & Kennedy, New York in fifth position. Rounding up the global top 10 were Almap BBDO, Sao Paulo, RKCR/Y&R London and Y&R Sao Paulo in equal 6th spot, followed by Clemenger BBDO Melbourne and Colenso BBDO Auckland in equal #9 spot. The USA, UK and Australia are once again the top three countries in the 2012 Bestads Rankings, as has been the case - albeit in different order in some years - since the rankings began in 2003. The USA was a clear leader in 2012, with 266 points, followed by the UK on 192 points and Australia on 145 points.  This week's guest judge is Michael Canning, Executive Creative Director at Leo Burnett New York.The best for me in this category is the web film for OAK, 'Reverse Robberies'. The idea of a reverse robbery feels fresh, involves people in the story, and doesn't take itself too seriously. I also like the idea of 'Hungry Thirsty' for OAK because it makes a funny point about the product. You can't get OAK in New York so I might visit the website and nominate a few convenience stores to get reverse robbed - would be interesting to see how it goes down in NY.
