At the ANDY Awards the GRANDY Best In Show Award went to McCann Worldgroup in San Francisco and T.A.G., for its Microsoft XBOX Halo 3 campaign âBelieve.â (originally featured on Best Ads in September 07). According to Mark Waites, Honorary Chairman of the International ANDY Awards and Creative Director and Founding Partner, Mother London, the work continues to reflect a departure from traditional approaches and mediums, showing greater emphasis on integrated programs with a very prominent digital component: âItâs getting increasingly difficult to believe that a stand alone TV spot is going to have any real impact these days. There has to be other elements to a successful campaign. The 2008 GRANDY, the Best in Show, was won by an incredible integrated campaign that engaged on many levels across many mediums. Without a doubt we will see this level of integration being an area for much innovation.â If you missed it before here is the TV spot again (It is also tipped to do very well at the Clio Festival next month). A bit of background to this months award: TV: November's TV work didn't seem to have any one spot that captured the Jury's imagination. Unlike the last couple of months where Sony Bravia "Paint" & "Flasbeer" stood out from the bunch, there was no clear favourite this month. As usual, there were a few ads that polarised the jury (eg. Zune "Eyes" & the "Borat" promo were either loved or not), and the winners were separated by just a couple of points over the totals from 11 judges. PRINT / OUTDOOR: The print & outdoor work has once again not scored particularly well. It looks like CDs / Judges worldwide are looking for more than what's currently out there. However, there were a few that stood out from the rest. CLICK HERE Nexus Productions / D&AD Global Student Awards 2007

4 December 2006 Nexus Productions collaborate with D&AD Global Student Awards 2007 The quest for a coveted D&AD Student Yellow Pencil gets underway again with the recent launch of the D&AD Global Student Awards 2007. For the first time in the Awards 29 year history a bespoke animation brief has been included and Nexus Productions are proud to be its sponsor. The D&AD Global Student Awards highlight the best emerging design and advertising talent and promote it to the international creative community . The competition calls upon college and university students across the globe to tackle live briefs from some of the worlds biggest brands. The 32 briefs are set by the world's foremost designers, advertising and business professionals and cover a wide spectrum of creative disciplines and industry sectors. Nexus Productions chose to collaborate with i count on the brief, which is to use animation to communicate one or more steps from i counts Step by Step Guide for Climate Cool book. i count is the brainchild of Stop Climate Chaos, a coalition of over 30 organisations including Greenpeace, Oxfam and Christian Aid. The book is a collaboration of all these organisations and explains the 15 simple steps we could all take to reduce global warming. To download the brief and i count supporting document please visit www.dandad.org/studentawards07. Nexus are very proud to be sponsoring this brief, which has provided them with an opportunity to work alongside tomorrow's industry in supporting the next generation of creative thinkers. The deadline for all entries is 23 March 2007 with judging taking place in April/May 2007 by Nexus Productions and a team of D&AD-invited creative professionals. Nominated work will be displayed in a special exhibition at D&AD Congress and published in the full colour hardback D&AD Student Annual. The winners will be officially announced at the Dinner and Ceremony on 28 June 2007. Chris OReilly, Executive Producer and co-founder of Nexus Productions said, We are very excited to be involved with the D&AD Global Student Awards 2007 and setting a brief like we have also raises the profile of animation as a viable career for students. D&AD Chief Executive Michael Hockney said, D&AD continually strives to enhance its wide range of education programmes, and particularly those aimed at the professional development of up and coming creative talent. Once again proving we are not journalists, here's an extract straight from the press release ..... The Glue Society's Matt Devine and Luke Crethar won the US$20,000 prize, being named the 2006 YoungGuns of the Year; for their integrated Jason Donovan campaign for Virgin Mobile. The campaign was created to show Virgin Mobile's low call charges and the resulting irresponsible phone use. An online ad "accidentally" revealed Donovan's mobile number and it was subsequently inundated with calls. Virgin was forced to issue a statement to staff, on posters and in the end ads urging viewers not to call the number. Click here to view some of this work The agency of the year prize was awarded by Saatchi & Saatchi New York, with the US as a whole winning the most bullets among countries with 15. Saatchi & Saatchi also won the network of the year award after nine of its offices picked up a bullet. The Student YoungGuns of the Year were Eleanor Bullen and Angie Bird from RMIT Melbourne for their Finger Twister post card which encourages people trying to stop smoking to, as the name suggests, play finger twister. The Jury Chairman's prize went to Brad Reilly and Jonathan Santana of Net#Work BBDO South Africa for their Power billboard for Nedved. The billboard has solar panels that supply energy to local people and reads: "What if a bank really did give power to the people?" The jury also singled out fellow South Africans Jason Kempen and Johnathan Smith of TBWAHuntLascaris in South Africa for special mention for their direct mail execution Pirated DVD. "When we started off, we set out to find what we thought wasn't just a great ad, but was a great idea as well," said jury chairman Chuck McBride, executive creative director of TBWAChiatDay. "The business we work in is changing, and the Young Guns in our business should be recognised for leading us to the new future of ideas and creativity in communication. There was healthy debate and because of that, very considered selections." Next year will see some changes to the competition including a prize for agencies less than three years old along with the introduction of a new mobile category, a redefined viral and new CyberSpots category. Cannes ... the JWT analysis
AWARD NEWS
June 28, 2006 01:49 (Edited: February 17, 2023 04:19)
From Bob Jeffrey, Chairman and CEO, JWT Worldwide and Craig Davis, Chief Creative Officer, JWT Worldwide celebrating their success down at Cannes: Theres a lot to be said for passion, self-belief and determination. Last week at the 53rd Cannes Advertising Festival, we gave our more fancied rivals one hell of a fright. The JWT group won an astonishing 35 Lions at Cannes this year, up from 17 in 2005 and five the year before. If there was ever any doubt about our intentions, there is no ambiguity now. We are aiming for #1 and the entire industry can see that we are emerging as a creative force to be reckoned with. In a photo finish, just three Lions separated the first five agencies, with Ogilvy (38), Saatchi & Saatchi (37), DDB (36) and BBDO (36) only a nose in front of us. It was a record breaking performance by JWT on so many levels. Belying our TV-centric past, JWT won Lions in Television, Radio, Press, Outdoor, Media, Cyber, Promotion, and Direct. And, in a resounding statement that big ideas and big business belong together, 23 of our clients were represented by our winning work including Nestle, Vodafone, Cadbury, Smirnoff, Pfizer, HSBC, Unilever, Levis, Nike, Kimberly-Clark, Wilkinson Sword, Ford, Mazda, JetBlue, Pepsico India, and Energizer. Underlining the strength of our network, we won Lions from JWT Bangalore, Buenos Aires, Curitiba, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, London, Mexico, Milan, Mumbai, New York, Paris, Rome, Santiago, San Juan, Sao Paulo, Shanghai, Warsaw and SCPF Barcelona, and Master Sao Paulo. In many cases, these wins were historic firsts. JWT Paris, who had never won a Lion, came away with three. JWT India who won their first ever Lion in 2005, a Silver, followed up with two Golds this year and were runner-up for the Press Grand Prix. Kuala Lumpur was also in contention for the Grand Prix in Outdoor and finished with a Gold. New York, who have not won a Lion since 2002, now have shiny Gold and Silver bookends. These are just a few of the stories of turnarounds and triumphs that we need to tell ourselves, our clients, our family and friends, and the media. The creative credentials of JWT, even to the naysayers and skeptics, are on the rise and we have good reason to feel proud of ourselves. What they said was rhetoric is becoming a reality. To our long list of Lion winners and to the longer list of contributors and supporters who helped along the way, thank you and congratulations for an amazing performance you have forced a great many people to recalibrate their opinions of JWT. And to those of you who made it onto the Shortlist (58 this year vs. 47 last year) and came so close to winning Lions, take a few deep breaths and push on, a little harder this time. We are, all of us, reinventing this company. We have overcome much of the inertia and momentum is building. Whod have thought that JWT, known for big strategic thinking, would become known as a creative leader and a top Cannes winner? Well, to borrow from Cannes 2006 Advertiser of the Year, Adidas, Impossible is nothing. Next year, we intend to win. Silver Awards Winners 2006
