Land Rover has unveiled a first-of-its-kind interactive, digital novel by international best-selling author William Boyd! Hosted on a custom Tumblr page at TheVanishingGame.com, The Vanishing Game is a multi-sensory storytelling experience that not only features Boyd's eight-chapter original tale of adventure and intrigue, it provides readers with a variety of multimedia options to experience the story on a deeper level, including dynamic video, cinemagraphs, photography, animation, dramatic voice-over narration and musical accompaniment. Readers will also have the option to scroll over highlighted passages to interact with an additional collection of images, videos and other media supplied by both Land Rover and its loyal enthusiasts. All multimedia content from Land Rover owners has been collected and curated by the brand through the designated hashtag #WellStoried, which will continue to serve as a hub for owner content. As a story, The Vanishing Game is the tale of 35-year-old Alec Dunbar, a British actor whose career to date has been an unfortunate series of early exits from action movies. Currently out of work and having recently totaled his car and been burglarized, his run of bad luck seems to be turning around when he is offered the opportunity to earn £1,000 pounds in 24 hours simply for delivering a package from London to a small town on Scotland’s West Coast. He sets out in a Land Rover Defender on his northbound trek through the lochs, glens, mountains and valleys of the beautiful (though treacherous) Scottish countryside, and soon discovers that he has become embroiled in a scheme far more dangerous than he had anticipated. Readers can experience the story on desktop, mobile and tablet devices. The Vanishing Game is also available for free download for e-readers via Amazon and Apple iBook. Y&R New York created the campaign, Tool of North of North produced the Tumblr site, and Mindshare is handling media.
