Leading online news site from Shalmor Avnon Amichay/ Y&R Interactive Tel Aviv gave tens of thousands of fans a platform to share their support for Israel's 1st NBA player. ynet, Israel's leading online news site collaborated with fans of Omri Casspi, the 1st Israeli player in the NBA, in an attempt to get him into the 2010 All Star games. Casspi is only in his rookie year and his performance has been incredible. The best rookies get to play in the rookie game. But throughout history a small number of rookies did the impossible and were chosen to be All Stars.
We decided we want Casspi to join them. Together with "ynet" we decided to reach out to fans all over the country and spread the "Vote Casspi All Star 2010" campaign.
ynet's logo took on the colors of the NBA. A special mini-site was created which explains how to vote, shows how many votes have been cast so far and how many votes Casspi still needs in order to make it to the All Star game in Dallas.
http://www.ynet.co.il/votecasspi A facebook fan page and twitter account were opened, constantly feeding updates on the voting progress: Facebook: http://bit.ly/5oHH1A Twitter: @Casspi4Allstar People all over the world saw the campaign and used it as a platform to show their love and support for this amazing player and national pride.Fans twittered about it, discussed it on facebook and debated on forums. National and international sports blogs wrote about it. It was mentioned in the official fan site of the Sacramento Kings (Casspi's basketball team) as well as on NBA fan sites around the world. In one week nearly 60.000 votes have been counted from 114 countries around the world. And the numbers are rising by the minute.
So, chances are that Omri Casspi won't make it to the All Star game but now he knows that a huge amount of supporters are behind him every step of the way.
