Chase the dream not the competition...
I come from a family that thrives on creativity. My Dad is a man of ideas, to say the least. To quote him: "One must experience life fully and to do that one must learn new things and always challenge oneself. A man who wakes up each day to realize how ignorant he was the previous day, is a man who has an enlightening life taking from strength to strength."
I'm not short of influence and inspiration. My sister says that we are strategists and we have a natural flair to exploit knowledge. I wish to seek this knowledge to be able to maximise my potential.
As a child, not knowing of my dyslexic issue then, i had aspired to be a writer, but would ask, "What do i write?' I've had quite a challenging life up till now and i believe that is what gives me and my family the edge and the drive to succeed. To reveal all leads to vulnerability; so to get to know me is a timely affair, not a spontaneously combustible one. That's not to say i come without a spark; the touch of paper takes longer to burn.
I understand how one grows is dependent on how much one explores. So to understand visual expression, i took up photography. Having equipped myself with a few tools, i took a short course and studied the technical aspects. Doing this also helped me improve my skills through the understanding of form and composition. I also spent time with several renowned photographers for an insight into their personal philosophy on the subject.
With an eclectic interest in music, I picked up a guitar and learnt the basics. With the helping hand of internet, I became quite adept over months of constant practice.
I took up dance for an introduction to the possibilities of movement. I continue to explore performance and movement and im still pushing myself on taking it to the next level.
Between all of this i worked in a a few design based companies; ad agencies, comic companies and few freelance jobs like assisting different directors to even just carrying props around in the ad film industry.
With this experience i joined a design college and took up a 4yr visual communication degree course to specialize in film making to learn and expand my knowledge space. But I realized it wasn't really my cup of tea. I should've listened to my brother or at least learnt from his experiences from being up there with just a 10th grade certificate; and he doesn't even carry that.
So i decided to get out of college and get back to face the real world.
I got into a lil bit of acting and modelling here and there for few brands. Again was just an act of exploration and also was my bread and butter for sometime.
I then joined a film production house in bangalore as the Assistant Director, where i learnt a lot more in the first month than to being in college for a year and a half.
My journey din't seem to halt there. After my voyage based on experience and observation boosted, I decided to leave to take it higher. I being a juvenile offender as up to the industry grandpa standards, chose to be rock-ribbed enough to start something myself and face the risk of falling & failing young. This venture took on along with a few who have true faith in me than to a few who pretend, so we started our own Audio Visual Design Production Unit called LiTTiL WORKS.
These experience demonstrate that i have a real desire to continue growing, exploring and expressing myself in as many mediums as possible. Having been exposed to the world of creativity in different forms, I realized to be a truly great designer or a film maker needs drive, talent, skill and a complete folio of artistic understanding and application. Although the faculties, I experienced has many tools in common, the approach and delivery were on different ends of a spectrum.
I wish to build on experiences and push new bounds. I expect it would put me in high levels with exceptional power in knowledge, skills and insight. I want to enrich my mind to be able to build my future to more than the best of my abilities. And thats how i see it.
A Littil goes a long way.
