Foodbank WA: Hungry Puffs TV commercial

Foodbank was dealing with a crisis. Government funding for the charity was under threat while demand for food relief was at an all-time high – with many Western Australian children being the worst affected. To tackle this huge problem, we created a new cereal brand called Hungry Puffs – the breakfast over 100,000 West Aussie kids wake up to every day – a bowl of nothing.
We managed to get Hungry Puffs were stocked in over 40 supermarket cereal aisles across Western Australia. Grocery shoppers who were then in the process of buying food for their own families were suddenly encouraged to support a much bigger cause, helping feed children that go without breakfast, every day. Each box of Hungry Puffs sold provided 10 children with their next meal.
To support the big idea and integrated campaign, we created a TV commercial that mimicked the style of happy, 60’s style breakfast cereal advertising underlined with a darker message about the need to feed hungry kids that go without breakfast.
Hungry Puffs resulted in 625,770 meals for children – an ROI of 2073%. Donations increased 2.1x from the previous year. And best of all, the positive attention gained from Hungry Puffs helped drive the decision for government funding cuts to be overturned.
