Callan Green

Biography

Callan Green ACS – Bio – October 2015

Raised in Upper Hutt, New Zealand in the early 1980's – Callan Green was first introduced to the art of photography at the age of 6. It was at this time that he received a little 35mm second hand stills camera from his mum for being a good boy.

Hundreds of rolls of film later, when Callan was in his early teens, he witnessed a proper 35mm motion picture camera in action while acting in what was later voted "New Zealand’s worst commercial" of 1993.

Bad commercial or not - from this point on he was destined to become a cinematographer. By age 17 Callan had left home and set forth on his quest to make it in the film industry.

After 7 years working as a 2nd AC on scores of TVC’s and films including a near 3 year stint in the main unit of The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, Callan decided to move to Sydney and begin his professional shooting career.

Callan is a prolific award-winning Director of Photography specialising in commercials and music promos as well as drama.

Various commercial clients have included: Dove Chocolate, Sky TV UK, Audi, One Direction Perfume, Sony Bravia, Cadillac, HSV, NZ Air force, St George Bank, UNICEF, Olay, Tooheys, Everlast, Toyota, Pepsi, Chevrolet and Schweppes.

Most recently he has shot music videos for George Michael, James Blunt, Birds Of Tokyo, One Direction, Eves the Behaviour, Bryan Adams and The Script.

His short film "Grey Bull" directed by Eddy Bell won best Australian short at the 2014 Melbourne Intl. Film Festival and was nominated for best short film at the AACTAS 2015.

Callan has won Gold for the past 10 consecutive years at the New South Wales State ACS Awards, along with 3 Runner Up National ACS Awards as well as 5 of the highly coveted National ACS Golden Tripods (Music Videos in 2006, 2012 and 2015 and for Commercials in 2010 and 2011).

In late 2013 Callan was accredited by the Australian Cinematographers Society, which allows him to use the letters ACS after his name.

More recently, Callan, his wife Emma and pug dog Baci moved to London. Callan is represented by the World Wide Production Agency (WPA) In London and Los Angeles.
