 GUEST JUDGE /BEST AD OF THE WEEK   WORLDWIDE    July 18, 2022 10:11 (Edited: February 17, 2023 04:19)
BEST TV
Winner: TVNZ+ 'Wooing Jeff'. I love this creative platform. 'It's free, but it could cost you' is a wonderful way to use negativity to sell something positive. It's refreshingly dark, inherently funny and with enough legs to take on 'should have gone to specsavers'. Makes having to watch the ads on TVNZ+ worthwhile.

Runner up: Maybe it's the over-exposure to Cannes winners we've all had recently, but the rest of the work this week just feels a bit ordinary.

BEST PRINT
Winner: Nikon x Blackboard 'Katlego'. I love the twist in this. It wasn't the ad I was expecting. It looks and sounds cheesy, and that's the very point. Cynicism can be a powerful persuader.

Runner up: Change The Ref 'Buses'. Another message from Change The Ref that makes your blood run cold. Impressive to be able to do that with a static image. The NRA must have hearts of ice to keep ignoring these powerful messages.

BEST OUTDOOR
Winner: PEAK Sport / German Basketball 'The Jersey Color Swap'. I think there's a really interesting insight here in the fact that colour means so much to sports fans. The jersey swap was a powerfully simple way to demonstrate that colour actually means nothing.

Runner up: Cadbury Caramilk 'Just Ask An Aussie'. The idea of turning Aussies into human billboards is great, but the execution feels a bit like those charity ambushes outside the shop you're trying to get into. I might find myself accidentally waving away a bar of chocolate thinking it was a clipboard.

BEST INTERACTIVE
Winner: Canesten 'The Truth, Undressed'. It's such a relief to see the ability to look at explicit imagery in private on internet used for good. I'm sure this has helped many vagina-owners feel better and better informed about what's inside their pants.

Runner up: Interrail 'SoundTracks'. I love train journeys, and I love getting lost in a soundtrack while staring out at the motion-blurred world. Using location, scenery, time and weather data to shape that soundtrack is a lovely way to celebrate the joy of train travel.
