Launched in 2018 by the TAC and TABOO, the award-winning Split Second Film Competition challenges young Victorians to submit a concept for a road safety film that combats distracted driving. This year's competition saw the introduction of Village Cinemas as the presenting partner and Logie-award winning actor, Firass Dirani, who starred in the winning film as part of the prize package. The medieval-themed winning film, A Trial Before the King, was conceived and written by Alex Lowes and directed by Nicholas Carlton.
