 GUEST JUDGE /BEST AD OF THE WEEK   WORLDWIDE    November 23, 2015 14:04 (Edited: February 17, 2023 05:19)
BEST TV
Best: Loteria - Night Shift. I am such a sucker for feel good films. This film was beautifully crafted, with a great character as the lead. The animation was beautiful, and the story line was enchanting. What a nice contrast to all the other Lotto commercials where we see what they do with their winnings.
And as much as I like Mog, this spot took top honours.

Runner up: Sainsbury's - Mogs Christmas Calamity. For having been brought back to life, Mog the cat who was born in 1970 by Judith Kerr is looking pretty good. In the battle for Christmas shoppers, I think Sainsbury's did a very good job of giving John Lewis a run for their money this

BEST PRINT
Best: Irish Examiner - Jonah Lomu. A beautifully simple and respectful message to say goodbye to a rugby legend. The cleverness comes from saying so much, by visually showing so little. A brilliant job of restraint.

Runner up: Harman/Kardon - The Beatles. Simple and clever, allowing the idea to clearly come across without littering it with over art direction.

BEST OUTDOOR
Not the best in outdoor. From inflatable tentacles, painted planes, a television spot, word play on the side of a ferry and then to top it off, decals on melons for breast cancer awareness.
No best, all runners up.

BEST INTERACTIVE
Best: Curitiba City Hall. Unshareable Women. A great idea for a worthy cause. I love how the idea mirrors the exact way technology works. There are no added complications and extensions. Simple and effective.

Runner up: Sainsbury's - The Storytellers. Although I don't think this remarkably break through, I do think that it is a great extension to their big Christmas spot and a fantastic initiative. My guess is they will receive a massive amount of entries. I hope this means Mog might get to have some well earned Eggnog.

BEST RADIO
This was a very tough category. Not because I was spoilt for choice. But did not hear anything that made me really listen.

Best: Allpest. Bedfart. The one thing I will commend them on, is that the performance of the two characters is really good. I am truly in the moment with them. It feels like I am listening to a real life situation and not a radio ad. Just a pity about ending it with the normal Radio ad sign off at the end.

Runner up: None

This week's guest judge is James Daniels, executive creative director, Jack Morton Worldwide, based in Sydney.

Like most rock gods who started their music careers in a garage, so did James' advertising career at the Jupiter Drawing Room in South Africa many moons ago. As a young art director he spent tireless hours crafting his work, and that love for the craft and the big idea has seen him work across most major advertising agencies and collect his fair share of awards, including a D&AD entry in only his second year of advertising.

James has never forgotten how great that feeling was, and continued to accumulate awards ever since.

Understanding that it's young talent that keeps the industry alive, James became a mentor and leader to those who dared to be great. For him, there was nothing better than to witness their talent blossom, confidence grow and the work they produced being awarded at every award show.

Asia called, and James moved to Singapore where he creatively led the Unilever business at Ogilvy, allowing him to experience the vast and magnificent cultures across Asia. He has always told his twin sons, that to truly experience a new country and its culture you cannot just look at it. You need to taste, smell and touch it as well. With this philosophy, James has embraced every regional project with an open mind and open eyes.

A new adventure and lifestyle called and he moved to Sydney.

Having lived in 3 continents in the last 5 years, he is finally happy to put down solid roots and make Sydney his home.

James has been invited to judge at Cannes, The Loeries, The Creative Circle Awards and The International Advertising Festival in Mozambique.
