 GUEST JUDGE /BEST AD OF THE WEEK   WORLDWIDE    November 28, 2016 22:27 (Edited: February 17, 2023 05:19)
"Make it simple. Make it memorable. Make it inviting to look at. Make it fun (to read)." If Mr Leo Burnett's definition of good advertising applied to this week's offerings, makes my roundup as thin as Donald Trump's skin.

Simple? Well since LB was referring to print when he made the above statement let me give a very honourable mention to TBWA Paris' World AIDS Day campaign, some beautiful photography there, highlighting a sensitive subject through a new insight. The agency has done some great work for Aides in the past and although this may not be their best work, it stands out.

Which leaves us with Bad Santa 2 and TPC Group Delivery. Two print ads of the throw-them-at-the-Cannes-Jury-and-see-if-they-stick school of art direction. Tiny logo in one case, none at all in the other. Simple and memorable, but perhaps ghostly simple, if you know what I mean.

BETC's ad (not part of this week's top 6) aiming to endorse the Safe Schools Declaration, an international political commitment by governments to better protect students during times of war by excluding schools from military use, including Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and South Sudan, reminds us that there are some very serious topics out there to be talked about, this includes 'The Toughest Letter' for Off The Street Club (mystifyingly placed in the Outdoor category by the organisers of this site), which again highlights a serious issue, actually 2 in a powerful and effective way.

I would take a peek at Heathrow Airport's quaint teddy-bears-come-home work. B for effort. Vive la France!

Inviting to look at? Well, Mr Burnett, there are a handful this week, including some of the above, nothing outstanding (wait till next week for BETC's new Canal + TVC, I'll say no more). Do we really need a selfie-taking Coke bottle? Is that the zenith of creativity. I think not.

Simple. Memorable. Inviting to look at. Fun? OK Go. No doubt. Cleverly made, entertaining, enjoyable, catchy. My pick of the week.
