Lifelounge Melbourne recognized an opportunity to help launch Spring Valley's new range of vitamin-infused mineral waters. We opened Australia's first 'Water Only' bar. The Smart Water Bar.

Focusing instead on how society despises the drink driver, their actions and the consequences, this new campaign for the Motor Accident Commission of South Australia is a radical departure from all previous advertising aimed at spreading the anti drink driving message. In each of the three spots, Clemenger BBDO Adelaide see a different individual talk very personally to camera about the things that they truly love, punctuated at the end with the thing they hate the most, the drink driver. With out their saying it in so many words, each portrait reveals a very poignant and arresting testimony that allows the viewer to identify with the emotional impact that drink driving has on our lives.

 GUEST JUDGE /BEST AD OF THE WEEK   AUSTRALIA    September 17, 2008 02:37 (Edited: February 17, 2023 04:19)
https://www.bestadsontv.com/news/upload/Em%26Cam.JPGThis week's guest judges are Emma Hill and Cameron Hoelter, creative team at Clemenger BBDO Melbourne.
This is their second stint together. The first was in Tasmania. But then they found out they were cousins, so fled to separate agencies in Melbourne and Sydney. They hooked up again in 2006, put the cousin thing aside, and since then have made some good stuff and won some attractive awards.

BEST TV
Cam: Jeez Emma. Everything from alzheimer's to a skateboarding lime guy.
Emma: Sure is a gamut of emotions covered here.
Cam/Emma: We chose Alzheimer's 'Car'. Not so sure about the canned laughter, feels a bit familiar in charity ads, but the insight is super powerful.
Runner up would be Bud Light 'Lime'.

BEST PRINT
Emma: Tough going here Cam.
Cam: Sure is Emma.
Emma: Do we have to pick something?
Cam: Yes, we should.
Emma/Cam: The Los Inrockuptibles is the most interesting idea here. Well, execution. Demonstrating everything they've got in the magazine, by showing someone falling and cracking their head open is different. Can't split the rest for 2nd.

BEST OUTDOOR
Emma: Small field here Cam.
Cam: As small as the ESPN 'Sponge Field' Emma.
Emma: Blue Shield is cool.
Cam: I like that one too. And maybe the ESPN 'Sponge Field' for second.

How to get 'Mate Time'

The Carlton MID brief to Clemenger BBDO Melbourne was one of those rare ones: A beer brand with a history of great advertising that needed a refresh. It was simple; talk to blokes with real world responsibilities like a mortgage, kids and a relationship, who really just wants to have it all - including some decent time with their mates. The idea is that Carlton MID could give them this 'mate time'; yes that magical and often elusive time for one more beer. It's familiar stoush in the battle of the sexes. The end result is a campaign about men with extraordinary powers. Powers that won't save the planet, or even a life but maybe, just maybe they can help a mate stay for one more beer. Says director Tim Bullock: "In a sense, these ads offer wish fulfilment. Every bloke would love to have a miraculous solution to these age-old problems."

Hey Aussies. Where the bloody hell were you?

https://www.bestadsontv.com/news/http://www.bestadsontv.com/files/print/2008/Sep/tn_16422_Sun_Billboard_lo_res_Euro_RSCG_1.jpg
For the first time in decades the English got a higher medal tally at the Olympics than arch-rivals Australia. The Sun Newspaper in Britain were determined to gloat at the Aussies expense. Euro RSCG London contacted their Sydney office and asked them to prepare a provocative stunt to shame the Aussies in their hometown. The stunt had to be ready for Sunday 3pm AEST (Olympics end) so that it could be shot and the pics wired over to the paper for the Monday AM edition. Deliberately spoofing the Australian tourism catch-phrase, copywriter/art director Darren Cole (himself an ex-pat living in Sydney) taunted the Aussies with the line "Where the bloody hell were you?" on a mobile billboard (depicting the final medal tally) that was photographed at all of Sydney's landmarks. The stunt proved so popular that it featured prominently in TV, radio and online news bulletins around the world, and the photo itself took off as a viral image.
