VIEW THE SPOT -{ no topic }-Guest comments for featured spot![]() Some background from Flavio Pantigoso, CD, Lowe México: Papalote Children's Museum at Mexico City is a Museum based on science and technology, primarily. Yet, it is a place meant not only for children but for the whole family, where parents have great fun bringing their kids. We thought that an adult robot (a symbol of the Museumâs content), seeking for âsharingâ and ending up building his own child, was a stirring idea. An inanimate being who is unable to reproduce but manages to âhaveâ a family in its own way, in order to enjoy the ideological statement of the Museum. The style that would make the story believable and touching was given by American director Mac Premo, a stop-motion animation expert represented by Neural Films in Mexico. He shot the whole film with a Reflex camera, thousands of still pictures. But he didnât use motionless figures moved slightly frame by frame, but real actors inside robot suits instead. These actors filled the characters with simple human gestures, a feat that traditional animation wouldnât capture adequately. ![]() Description ------------------------------------ Dom Bosco Community Center is a huge Social Project and has been around for 25 years, supporting abandoned poor brazilian kids and giving them some hope. Our idea was to create an appealing and strong visual. Something that would really stand out. Since the strategy was to show how the abandoned children see the world, and how hard it actually is for them, big scared eyes in black and white seemed to be a good way to go. Creative Commentary ------------------------------------ The style evolved along the way, during the art direction process. The type and crop too. We, all the time, just wanted to make it as strong as possible. We usually go to the shoot and are very much on top of the whole production aspect, overlooking the castings, asking for storyboards, art references, wardrobe, the protagonistâs voice, the music: exteremely important! Well, for this project our agency did none of these things. The idea this time was to let each director voice their own point of view, without our interference. As for the script, we only asked that they be adjusted to the storyâs spirit. For which, when the time came for the directors presentantions, we knew nothing in respect. We were offline spectators without being able to touch anything. Nonetheless, we are very happy with the final outcome. That is despite that deep feelin inside I still want to make some changes in the editing stages. "My left eye" With the arrival of the ninth Independent Film Festival of Buenos Aires, Argentina's leading newspaper Clarin and Santo devised an event within the event, known as 'Project 155'. Being the main sponsor of the Festival, Clarin was searching for a sponsorship TV and cinema spot, and the final outcome proposed by Santo was a cultural piece which the festival authorities deemed worthy of incorporating into the official program because of its artistic value. Santo wrote a script entitled 'My left eye' which celebrates the unique, independent vision (the heart and soul of independent film) and gave that very same script to five different independent directors. The script was tight enough to provide a framework but allowed for personal vision and interpretation. Length, voiceover and scene criteria were the only restrictions. The result, five short films with different tones of voice, aesthetics, and characters to tell the exact same story. The directors involved were argentines Ariel Winograd, Cayetana Vidal, Nicólas Parodi and Plástico and mexican Rodrigo Garcia Saiz, all of whom were chosen because of their varied profiles and backgrounds. The script was previously published by newspaper Clarin. And the 8 minute-long project was screened to audience acclaim during the festival. Based on the cultural contribution and positive feedback, Clarin has decided to make this idea an annual classic (each year with a different script and different directors). We are so proud to have worked with a client in the scope of Discovery Channel WorldWide. This project from SANTA CLARA Agency in Sao Paulo, we felt that it was very unique right when we got the script. And that's the kind of work we like to invest. After a few weeks of brainstorming back and forth with agency creatives almost day to day, we presented the elements that are in the spot exactly how you see it here, to the client, and she just loved every single moment and element that was brought to the table. The best thing even, was, we shot exactly how it was planned, no stress, just what it is. We felt that this spot could go back to the cable channels roots in a way. That was our goal.
